CPPCC National Committee Standing Committee Meets

The Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) opened its 16th meeting Tuesday in Beijing.

The Standing Committee of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) opened its 16th meeting Tuesday in Beijing.

Li Ruihuan, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee and a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee Political Bureau, attended the meeting together with 22 deputy chairmen.

It was decided at the meeting that the Fifth Session of the Ninth CPPCC National Committee will be inaugurated on March 3.

The three-day meeting, in preparation for the upcoming annual session of the top political advisory body, will hear and approve a number of briefings and reports on major issues related to the session.

Since the last annual session, 3,737 proposals on state issueshave been put forward by CPPCC National Committee members, non-communist parties and NGOs, of which 3,566 have been handled according to official records.

Over the past year, over 30 key issues related to national development have been investigated and studied by the CPPCC National Committee's special committees and have been given careful attention by the CPC Central Committee, the State Council and departments concerned.
