Chongqing Exports Off to Fine Start
The export value of this largest metropolis in western China rose 40 percent to 76.58 million U.S. dollars-worth in the first month of this year, a local trade official announced here recently.
The export value of this largest metropolis in western China rose 40 percent to 76.58 million U.S. dollars-worth in the first month of this year, a local trade official announced here recently.
Exports of high-tech products, which comprise 107 varieties, topped 15 million U.S. dollars-worth, making up one fifth of the city's total exports. They are sold to 59 countries and regions.
Traditional export items such as machinery and electrical products earned 40 million U.S. dollars, a rise of 66 percent over the same period last year.
The export of motorcycles, the principal items made in Chongqing, soared 60 percent to 16.65 million U.S. dollars-worth compared with January 2001. Major importers included Vietnam, Myanmar, the Philippines, Laos and Indonesia.
Chongqing's exports to all Asian markets, except the Republic of Korea. registered an all-round increase.
