Israel and the Palestinians will hold joint security meetings Thursday night or Friday with the presence of U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) officials, to discuss ways to end violence, Israel Radio reported Thursday.

On Wednesday, Israeli Defense Minister Binyamin Ben Eliezer met chief of Palestinian Preventive Security Service in the Gaza Strip, Mohammed Dahlan, and with Palestinian National Authority (PNA) Chairman Yasser Arafat's economic advisor Mohammed Rashid to discuss security matters and ways to stem the escalating violence.

Ben Eliezer's office declined to comment on the meeting.

Both Ben Eliezer and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon held discussions with Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak over phone on ways to prevent a further deterioration of the situation.

In his speech to the nation Thursday evening, Sharon is expected to announce measures to ease economic restrictions on the Palestinians, after the Palestinian security service arrested three people suspected of involvement in the assassination of Israeli tourism minister Rehavam Ze'evi last October.

The last Israeli-Palestinian joint security meeting was held on February 1, after Sharon met three senior Palestinian officials.
