HK Newspapers Highlight Tung's Winning of High Nomination Rate

Major Hong Kong newspapers highlighted on Wednesday Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR government Tung Chee Hwa's winning of high nominations rate from the 796-member election committee.

Major Hong Kong newspapers highlighted on Wednesday Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR government Tung Chee Hwa's winning of high nominations rate from the 796-member election committee.

Wen Wei Po pointed out in an editorial that the 90 percent nomination rate showed the Hong Kong society's comprehensive support for Tung and high expectation on him.

Tung has a long way to go if he was re-elected, but with the support of Hong Kong people he will be sure to lead Hong Kong to abrighter future, the editorial said.

Ta Kung Po hailed Tung's winning as a symbol of the success of the "One Country, Two Systems" policy in an editorial.

The newspaper also said that Tung's winning was believed to benefit Hong Kong's stability and future development.

China Daily Hong Kong Edition said in a commentary, "As the EC members represent the interests of all spectrums of society, the high nomination rate serves as proof that Tung's election for a second term in office has won the heart of the majorities of Hong Kong people."

South China Morning Post said in a comment that with the support of more than 700 EC members, what little doubt there was about Tung's re-election as Chief Executive had disappeared.

The real issue is what Tung proposes to do in his second term and Hong Kong's future depends on how well he meets the challengesfacing Hong Kong, it said.
