China's capital exported 260 million U.S. dollars-worth of farm produce last year, up 54.6 percent year on year.
Japan, Hong Kong and the Republic of Korea are the three largest importers of farm produce from Beijing.
Farms with foreign capital contributed to 70 percent of the city's farm produce exports last year, valued at 180 million U.S. dollars.
Local analysts said that, following China's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO), local farm produce will enjoy a much better environment for exporting, but it will no longer be able to benefit from the traditional low-price strategy.
Chinese farmers have to turn to modern farming, by adopting modern technology and producing green food, in a bid to become more competitive on the international market, the experts noted.
