Hong Kong Chief Executive Hosts Spring Reception
Tung Chee Hwa, chief executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR), hosted a Spring Reception at Government House Monday, with the attendance of about 1,000 people from all walks of life in Hong Kong.

Delivering a speech, Tung extended the new year greetings to all the participants and wishes them every success in the Year of the Horse.
Tung said that the people of Hong Kong are confident that Hong Kong will overcome challenges and emerge stronger, although Hong Kong is faced with the slowdown of the major markets and economic restructuring.
Hong Kong is endowed with many competitive advantages, such as the rule of law, a free and open society, an efficient and transparent government, a business friendly environment, its position as an international financial and business center, and so on, he said.
"On top of all these, we have the benefit of the strong support of the central government and the tremendous opportunities created by China's accession to the World Trade Organization," he noted.
"Our vision is to build on our competitive advantages and make Hong Kong one of the most important cities in China and Asia's World City," he said.
Tung called upon the community to adopt new thinking to make Hong Kong more competitive in the new year.
He also called upon the staff in the SAR government to adopt new thinking in serving the community, to ensure that the policies better reflect the wish and aspirations of the community.
"With shared vision and unity of purpose, I am confident that Hong Kong will rise above the challenge. Together, we will scale new heights, make new achievements and create new prosperity for Hong Kong," he added.
