A local famous think-tank on Monday urged the government to increase economic cooperation with China and recruit Thai Chinese people to attract Chinese investments.
The Thai Farmers Research Center (TFRC) said in a report that the Thai government should facilitate more economic exchange and cooperation between the two countries and support Chinese investors, acting as a bridge.
The think-tank expects growing Chinese investment in the country's chemical, paper pulp, plastic and agricultural sectors, which it believed will bring about more income and job opportunities to local people.
It also recommended the government set up investment office in China, in order to provide trade and investment information to Chinese investors.
According to the TFRC, China's exports to Thailand increased 9.9 percent year-on-year in 2001 while Thai exports to China grew 1.3 percent.
