Two Arabs and a Ugandan suspected to be members of Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda terrorist network were arrested on Saturday night by a flying squad of Kenyan police at an Mosque, local newspaper the People Daily reported in Nairobi on Monday.

The report said these suspects were picked up near Jamia Mosquein Eldoret city of Rift Valley Province soon after attending prayers with other Muslims when the flying squad officers stormed the area.

Eldoret police boss Joseph Kiget confirmed the arrest of the three suspects but declined to give further details except saying that they were still being interrogated.

According to the report, a police officer in Eldoret further disclosed that one suspect was in a list of suspected terrorists wanted by police and the United States' Central Intelligence Agency for questioning.

One of the local Muslims who requested anonymity said: "We had suspected that there were strangers amidst us because the Arabs had difficulties communicating with the rest of us in either Kiswahili or English."

He said one suspect had requested assistance to travel to Mombasa, the largest port city in Kenya, because he did not have money and knew no one in Eldoret.

Fellow Muslims raised some money to assist the stranded man as they did not know that the man was an alleged wanted criminal, thereport said.

Kenyan police last week arrested about 100 Somali and Sudanese aliens, some of whom were suspected to be criminals who had sneaked into the country with a large haul of arms, and some of the aliens had forged immigration documents and identity cards.

A number of the aliens have already been taken to court and areexpected to be eventually deported, but Kiget said the swoop on aliens and other criminals would continue.
