The Chinese women 's ice hockey team played to a 5-5 draw against Germany in the final match of Group B at the Salt Lake City Olympic Winter Games Saturday afternoon.

The Chinese team, who has lost nine games including two Olympic matches in a row, seemed to have a vital victory in the final match when the team entered the third period with a 5-2 lead.

However, the German women, who also lost their first two games in group round robins, scored three goals without an answer in the final 20 minutes and turned the tables to a draw.

Liu Hongmei, captain of the Chinese team, could not keep her disappointment and said: "After leading the first two periods, we became quite conservative at the end. It cost us too much."

Her comments was echoed by Gu Hong, one of the best goalkeepers at the Winter Olympics. "We lost our pace after Germany scored one goal in the third period and the loophole in our defensive

line existed throughout the final time in the game."

With the draw, China was last in the group standings after the United States, Finland and Germany. Top two teams from the group have advanced into the semi-finals along with Canada and Sweden, top two finishers from Group A.
