Albanian President Rexhep Meidani Friday issued a decree to approve the formation of the country's new government led by Prime Minister Pandeli Majko.

The new coalition government includes 19 ministers mainly from the ruling Socialist Party (SP) and its four allies, ATA news agency reported.

Skender Gjinushi retained his post of Deputy Premier while ArdaDade continued to be Minister of Foreign Affairs. Former Culture Minister Luan Rama was appointed as Defense Minister to replace Pandeli Majko, now the head of the government.

Stefan Cipa, an unknown deputy to public, will become Public Order Minister.

Meidani's decree was submitted to the Parliament on Friday, thepresident's office said. Former Premier Ilir Meta declared his resignation in January because SP Chairman Fatos Nano had criticized the government he led for several months.

Meta then recommended Majko to be the candidate for Prime Minister. Last Thursday, President Meidani appointed Majko as prime minister.

Majko, 34, worked as Albanian Premier from 1998 to 1999.
