The Malaysian Chinese community Tuesday joyfully ushered in the Year of Horse, which symbolizes progress, success and an active life.

The Malaysian Chinese community Tuesday joyfully ushered in the Year of Horse, which symbolizes progress, success and an active life.

The Chinese New Year celebrations were held nationwide and attended by the country's leaders and those of various communities in multi-racial Malaysia.

In Kuala Lumpur, the celebration organized by the Malaysia Chinese Association, the second largest party in the ruling National Front, was highlighted by traditional dances and Chinese wushu performed by young monks from China's Shaolin Temple. Deputy Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi was among the guests to attend the gathering.

Meanwhile, Malaysian Supreme Head of State Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail attended the celebration in Perlis State hosted by the local Chinese community.

Various activities were also held in the rest of the country.
