Jiang Zemin Meets Japanese Guests

Chinese President Jiang Zemin met Saturday with a delegation of the Japanese New Conservative Party headed by its leader Takeshi Noda and former Japanese Prime Minister Toshiki Kaifu in Beijing. Jiang said that reviewing the Sino-Japanese relations over the past 30 years, the only correct choice for both sides is to adhere to friendship.

Peaceful development best conforms to both sides
Jiang said that reviewing the Sino-Japanese relations over the past 30 years, especially the recent dozens of years, the only correct choice for both sides is to adhere to friendship, adding that friendship can promote common prosperity and benefit both countries and peoples.

He said that peaceful development best conforms to the interestof the Japanese nation, and is also the hope of Asian countries and peoples. Politicians of both countries should proceed from this overall situation and pay attention to the fundamental wishesand interest of the two peoples, always educate the young generation with correct concept of history and promote the development of Sino-Japanese relations in a continuous way, so as to maintain friendship between the two peoples from generation to generation.

China attaches great importance to Sino-Japanese relations
He pointed out that the Chinese government always pays special attention to Sino-Japanese relations. Maintaining a healthy, stable and friendly cooperative relationship not only benefits thetwo peoples, but also contributes to the stability and prosperity of Asia and the world.

Jiang said that he expects the New Conservative Party and all social sectors in Japan will make active efforts in promoting Sino-Japanese friendship.

Takeshi Noda conveyed greetings of Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi to President Jiang and passed on Koizumi's letter to Jiang.

Japan preparing for 30th anniversary of bilateral relations
He said that this year happens to be the 30th anniversary of the normalization of Japan-China relations, all social circles in Japan are preparing for various kinds of commemorative activities.The Japanese side is planning to send a 10,000-strong delegation of friendship to visit China, so as to further promote the healthyand stable development of Japan-China friendly relations in the new century.

Toshiki Kaifu recalled with pleasure his many meetings with President Jiang, saying he is proud for the efforts he made when he was prime minister in promoting friendship between the two countries. He wished that the Chinese people make even greater achievements and Japan-China friendly cooperative relations have further development.



Jiang Meets Former Japanese Prime Minister
Chinese President Jiang Zemin met Thursday afternoon with "two old friends of China" -- former Japanese Prime Minister Tomiichi Muraya and JCFA President Ikuo Hirayama. They held friendly talks on common concers and diplomatic relations normalization.

Jiang spoke highly of the contribution made by Tomiichi Murayama and Ikuo Hirayama to the friendship between China and Japan, and thanked JCFA for their efforts to promote non-governmental exchanges. Full Story

Vice Premier Meets Japanese Guests
China and Japan should set their sights on the rewards and bright prospects resulting from friendship and cooperation while earnest dealing with existing problems in bilateral relations, Chinese Vice Premier Qian Qichen said Friday.
