Vice Premier Meets Japanese Guests

China and Japan should set their sights on the rewards and bright prospects resulting from friendship and cooperation while earnest dealing with existing problems in bilateral relations, Chinese Vice Premier Qian Qichen said Friday.

He made the remark during a meeting with a delegation from the New Conservative Party (NCP) of Japan in Zhongnanhai, the headquarters of the Chinese government in Beijing.

Qian, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), said as the two countries review the past, they should see the growth of their friendship and never forget the lessons of history.

He also said as they celebrate the 30th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations this year, statesmen from both countries should take the opportunity to push forward bilateral relations in a broad, healthy and unwavering manner.

The Japanese NCP delegation has Kaifu Toshiki as its adviser and Noda Takeshi as its head.

Toshiki, the former Japanese prime minister, and Takeshi said the NCP is ready to make a bigger contribution to the development of bilateral relations.
