Chinese international Sun Jihai will have to wait until next week before finding out if he has earned a contract with Manchester City.
The Dalian Shide defender is currently on trial with City, who are top of England's first division, and has made a favourable impact at Maine Road.
"We will continue to look at him but I have to say his quality is not in doubt," City manager Kevin Keegan said.
The Blues could be put off buying Jihai because of his international commitments. It was for that reason that first division side Crystal Palace released Sun in May 1999.
City would pay around 2 million pounds ($2.82 million) for the defender, who is expected to play a leading role in China's World Cup campaign.
