Performances Staged to Herald Chinese Lunar New Year

Performances marking the impending Chinese lunar New Year were staged Thursday night in Beijing. The performances feature progress China has made in social and economic development and life of Chinese soldiers.

Performances marking the impending Chinese lunar New Year were staged Thursday night in Beijing.

The evening performances were sponsored by the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the General Political Department of the People's Liberation Army of China and other government departments.

The performances feature progress China has made in social and economic development and life of Chinese soldiers.

Among those watching the performances were senior Chinese leaders, including Jiang Zemin, Li Peng, Zhu Rongji, Li Ruihuan, Hu Jintao, Wei Jianxing, Li Lanqing and top military officers.
