Musharraf Stresses Economic Reforms and Poverty Reduction
Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf said here on Wednesday that the economic reforms and poverty reduction strategy was a cornerstone of his government's economic policies, according to the Associated Press of Pakistan.

Musharraf made his remarks while talking to Head of United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific ( UNESCAP) Kim Hak Su currently on a three-day visit to Pakistan.
Musharraf briefed Kim about his government's priorities including economic reforms, political restructuring, poverty reduction and good governance.
The government had started a number of programs to alleviate poverty, he added.
Musharraf informed Kim that the government was also encouraging private public partnership to reduce poverty through the Human Development Task Force.
Musharraf said that the task force had been established to increase capacity in human development at the federal, provincial and district level.
Kim briefed Musharraf about the ESCAP program.
He said that ESCAP would organize training courses on regional basis in Pakistan for Central Asian States and South Asia in banking, insurance, poverty reduction and capital markets.
