Beijing invites foreign investors to participate in the development of the local economy, said Vice Mayor Zhang Mao in Beijing Wednesday.
Zhang made the remark at a gathering held by the Municipal government to celebrate the Chinese lunar new year with Beijing- based foreign and domestic business people.
Many memorable events took place in China in 2001, including China's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO) and Beijing' s successful bid for the 2008 Olympic Games, said Zhang, who called for business people to take advantage of the unprecedented opportunities for economic development.
Beijing is to concentrate on the development of high and new- tech industries, infrastructure construction, environmental protection and the development of the service industry in 2002, according to Zhang.
An Olympic Games' Action Plan will soon be launched to outline guidelines for local development for preparations for the 2008 Olympics.
Zhang also invites foreign investors to supervise government work in the new year and vows to strengthen ties with locally- based businesses.
Business people who attended the gathering were confident in the future success of their business operations in Beijing.
Statistics show that 816 foreign business institutions were approved by local government in 2001, 15.1 percent more than the previous year and bringing the total number of foreign-funded enterprises to 10,380 in Beijing.
