Thousands of Sri Lankan Muslims continued their protest against extortions, abduction of Muslim civilians by separatist Tamil Tiger rebels in the east of the country on Tuesday.
The Muslim civilians began their fast onto death protest campaign on Sunday at a suburb of Trincomalee City, some 300 kilometers northeast of capital Colombo, demanding the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) rebels stop their practice.
A Muslim MP from leftist JVP or People's Liberation Front joined the protest and extended her support to the protesters.
In a statement she accused the government of turning deaf ear towards the LTTE atrocities and appealed the government to take immediate steps to arrest this situation.
No violent incidents have been reported as adequate security has been provided for the protesters, police said.
