Chinese Speedskater Sets Record in 1,000-meter Short Track

Chinese speed skater Yang Yang (A) tuned up for the Winter Olympics by breaking her own world record in the 1,000-meter short-track.

Chinese speed skater Yang Yang (A) tuned up for the Winter Olympics by breaking her own world record in the 1,000-meter short-track.

Yang Yang finished Sunday in 1:31.191 at the Calgary Olympic Oval to beat her previous mark of 1^The record must still be ratified by the International Skating Union.

"For me this is just practice now and I'm still not thinking about Salt Lake, which is good because I want to think of the Olympics as just another race,'' she said.

Canada's Marie-Eve Drolet also beat the previous record, finishing behind Yang Yang in 1^Yang Yang dominated this season's World Cup, finishing first in the women's overall standings with 97 points. She shares a name with teammate Yang Yang (S), but the two are not related.
