IOC Praises Beijing Olympics Organizers for Pace in Preparation
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) praised Beijing organizers on Monday in Salt Lake City for its pace in preparing for the 2008 Olympic Games. IOC chairman said it makes no doubt that the commitment made by Beijing during the bid will eventually leave a very positive environmental legacy for the future.

"I'd like to thank you sincerely for the speed at which you have established the organizing committee, this is absolutely comforting for the IOC," said IOC president Jacques Rogge.
He made the remarks after Beijing Organizing Committee of the 2008 Olympic Games (BOCOG) finished its presentation to the 113th IOC session which is ongoing here.
Rogge continued that the past experience has shown that when time is lost by the organizing committee, it is always in the beginning of the preparation for the Games.
"That seems not to be the case with you," he said. "We will be on your side, and we look forward to excellent cooperation."
Preparation "at galloping pace"
Hein Verbruggen, who has just knew 2002 is the Year of Horse in Chinese lunar calendar, said that since Beijing was chosen for the Games last July, its preparation for the Games has been going on "at a galloping pace".
"Indeed Beijing has not lost time," said the chairman of the IOC's Coordination Commission of the 2008 Olympic Games.
The IOC member, who was also chairman of the IOC's evaluation commission during the 2008 Olympic bid stage, added that there have been "some encouraging developments" that is taking place.
He said that the post-games utilization of the Olympic venues have been "very carefully considered" by the BOCOG and environmental protection is still one of the focuses of the organizing committee.
"That makes no doubt that the commitment made during the bid will eventually leave a very positive environmental legacy for the future," he added.
Aiming for the best Games ever to be held, Beijing is working with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to develop an overall plan for the event in 2008, organizers said Wednesday in Beijing.
The document, titled Master Plan, will detail thousands of tasks which the Beijing Organizing Committee of the Olympic Games (BOCOG) and is expected to complete in the next seven years. The IOC also use it to evaluate the preparations of the organizers.
The 2008 IOC Evaluation Commission is composed of representatives of all components of the Olympic Movement: the IOC, International Federations, National Olympic Committees, athletes, International Paralympic Committee, former organisers of Olympic Games and experts. The Commission's tasks include verifying the information in each City's Candidature File, determining whether the plans are feasible and making an overall risk assessment.
