Year 2002 Very Important for China, CPC: Hu Jintao
China's Vice-President Hu Jintao said the year 2002 will be very important for both the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) and China, in which China will continue to follow its policy of expanding domestic demand, deepening its reform and opening wider to the outside world, speeding up its economic restructuring, rectifying and regulating market order, and promoting sustained, rapid and healthy economic development.
China's Vice-President Hu Jintao said the year 2002 will be a very important year for both the Chinese Communist Party (CPC) and China.
Addressing a gathering of 2,000 revolutionary veterans marking the impending Chinese lunar New Year, Hu said that the current international situation is complicated and the global economic environment grim.
In addition, China has some domestic economic problems which also deserve urgent attention, he said.
However there are many favorable conditions which will help China to do a good job this year.
Hu said China will continue to follow its policy of expanding domestic demand, deepening its reform and opening wider to the outside world, speeding up its economic restructuring, rectifying and regulating market order, and promoting sustained, rapid and healthy economic development.
The CPC is scheduled to convene its 16th national congress later this year, a significant event for China as it continues the undertaking of Socialist modernization.
The gathering was held by the Organization Department of CPC Central Committee, the General Political Department of the People's Liberation Army of China and the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee.
General outline for the economic work of 2002
The Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the State Council jointly held the Central Economic Working Conference in Beijing from November 27 to 29.Jiang Zemin, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and Premier Zhu Rongji respectively delivered an important speech at the meeting.
The meeting proposed a general outline for the economic work of 2002, calling for deepening the reform, expanding the opening, speeding up the economic restructuring, overhauling and regulating the market, and improving the quality and performance of economic growth, so as to boost the sustainable, rapid and healthy development of the national economy and overall advancement of society.
