Mainland Manufacturers Increase Computer Purchase in Taiwan

As persons of the circle speculated the purchase volume of the three major PC manufacturers namely THTF, Legend and Beida Founder will exceed 50 billion NT dollars in the Island in 2002.
Taiwan manufacturers also showed great interests in cross-Straits cooperation in computer manufacturing because they believed that there is a great potential in the mainland computer market.

Computer Manufacturers Adds Purchase in Taiwan

Lu Zhicheng, president of Tsinghua Tongfang (THTF), revealed to the circles of computer manufacturing of Taiwan that gross scale of the THTF information industry will reach 5 billion yuan (about 20 billion NT dollars) in 2002. The purchase of the related products will be mainly done in Taiwan, according to Lu.

Statistics from Taiwan show that the purchase volume of Legend Group in Taiwan in 2000 also exceeded 20 billion NT dollars. As persons of the circle speculated here the purchase volume of the three major PC manufacturers namely THTF, Legend and Beida Founder will exceed 50 billion NT dollars in the Island in 2002.

World Famous IT Industrial Manufacturing Base

As a world famous IT industrial manufacturing base, Taiwan occupied 55 percent of the world market of notebook computers in 2001. The proportion is expected to hit 70 percent in 2006.

International manufactures in Europe, the United States and Japan have always remained important clients of Taiwan information industry. With the computer products become more and more popular in the mainland, purchase volume by China's mainland manufacturers is also increasing gradually.

Take the PC market for example, the sales of PCs products in the mainland market increased by 21 percent in last year. The growth will maintain by over 20 percent this year.

Taiwan Manufacturers Confident in Mainland Market

Taiwan manufacturers also showed great interests in cross-Straits cooperation in computer manufacturing. They believed that there is a great potential in the mainland computer market, while for the traditional market in Europe, the US and Japan, the growth rate will be limited since computers have been quite popular.

As sources say, Quanta Computer Inc. has reached an agreement with the THTF to unfold cooperation in notebook computers.

The information industry of Taiwan is moving its manufacturing bases to the mainland on a large scale, and has meanwhile pushed international computer manufacturing giants to move their purchase decision-making center to China.

IT Products Value in Motherland Expected to Surpass That of Taiwan

As the environment for investment in Taiwan is deteriorating, Taiwan's hardware manufactures have increased their proportion of production in China's mainland.

According to the rough estimation of the Taiwan MIC, the global value of information industry products made by China's mainland will for the first time exceed that of Taiwan with its annul growth rate hitting the world record while Taiwan will quit to take the fourth place.

The output value of China's computer industry is expected to reach 383 billion yuan (US$46.1 billion) in 2001.
