India Friday dismissed Pakistan's claim that the kidnappers of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl have been in contact by telephone with persons in the Indian government with at least three of them holding "important positions."

"Let them come up with the names. This is a great charade they are playing," the Press Trust of India quoting official sources said.

Pakistani Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar, on an official visit to Berlin, said that the information was based on records for a cell phone used by the lead kidnapper, whom he identified as Muharrak Shah.
