Japan's New FM to Hold Talks With Russian FM on Territorial Dispute
Japan's newly appointed Foreign Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi will hold talks with visiting Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov this weekend on the territorial dispute and the conclusion of a bilateral peace treaty, Japan's Kyodo News reported.

Japan's newly appointed Foreign Minister Yoriko Kawaguchi will hold talks with visiting Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov this weekend on the territorial dispute and the conclusion of a bilateral peace treaty, Japan's Kyodo News reported.
Japanese government apparently determined that Kawaguchi, who was appointed as the new foreign minister Friday night, will be able to handle the task, it reported.
Kawaguchi and Ivanov are expected to confirm that high-level political dialogue between the two countries will continue, according to Kyodo.
The two will discuss regional and international situations, including the situation in Afghanistan and international terrorism,it said.
They may also discuss plans for Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi to visit Russia some time this year, Kyodo said.
Igor Ivanov, who arrived in Tokyo Friday afternoon, will also visit Indian and Afghanistan following her stay in Japan.
