China Offers Emergency Assistance to Nigeria

The Chinese government will give emergency relief supplies worth one million yuan to Nigeria, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Kong Quan said Thursday. Chinese government believes that the government and people of Nigeria will be able to overcome their difficulties and do a good job in disaster relief and reconstruction.

The Chinese government will give emergency relief supplies worth one million yuan to Nigeria, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Kong Quan said Thursday.

He told the media that the assistance will be used to help victims of the tragic explosions on Sunday in Nigeria's largest city Lagos.

The spokesman said the Chinese government is highly concerned about the disaster caused by the explosions, which caused a large number of casualties and heavy loss of property.

He said the Chinese government believes that the government and people of Nigeria will be able to overcome their difficulties and do a good job in disaster relief and reconstruction.

Chinese President Jiang Zemin sent a telegram Wednesday to Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, expressing sympathy for the Nigerian government and people and condolences to the bereft families.



Explosions in Northern Nigeria
