China has recently allowed foreign consulting companies to provide legal services related to occupational health and safety for domestic enterprises except for those involving in national security and business secrets.
Experts said it is conducive for China to get in line with the international conventions on work safety and employees' health protection now that China is a member of the World Trade Organization.
Actually, with the increasingly active and deep international economic and trade exchanges, the world economies have showed a willingness to form a comprehensive package of unified standards on workplace health and safety.
In June last year, the International Labor Organization (ILO) published guidelines on occupational safety and health management systems to encourage countries to become more effective in preventing accidents.
Yang Fu, director of the Technological Improvement and Equipment Department under the State Administration of Work Safety Supervision, said that the joining of foreign consulting firms is an important channel of borrowing advanced experiences in this aspect from industrialized countries.
In July 2000, China established a national committee on safety standards verification over enterprises.
Since then, about 20,000 employees among 700 enterprises have accepted training on workplace safety in China and 200 enterprises have set up safety management systems to root out hazards and prevent accidents.
