China to Issue 10 Series of Commemorative Coins

In 2002 China is to issue 10 series of gold and silver commemorative coins, including 19 types of gold coin, one type of platinum and 21 types of silver coin.

In 2002 China is to issue 10 series of gold and silver commemorative coins, including 19 types of gold coin, one type of platinum and 21 types of silver coin.

A spokesman for the People's Bank of China said this year's commemorative coins will feature a variety of themes, including the giant panda, the Guanyin Buddha, Chinese grotto art, Chinese customs and Peking opera. New technology will be employed in producing these coins.

The aggregate weight of the gold coins to be issued this year will be 251,000 ounces, down 4,0100 ounces from last year, while the weight of the silver coins will be 2.047 million ounces, up 474,000 ounces.
