To prepare for the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, the municipal government has mapped out four large environment protection projects.
The projects involving a total investment of 2.9 billion yuan (about 350 million U.S. dollars) are now set to invite public bids, revealed Guo Junqing, deputy director of the Beijing Development Planning Commission (BDPC).
The four projects are Dongcun Garbage Disposal Plant, Caoqiao Revolving Thermal-power Plant, Lugou Bridge and Beiyuan sewage treatment plants, Tuesday's China Daily reported.
"Hong Kong investors, familiar with the domestic market and having rich experience of international practices, are particularly welcome to take an active part in the ambitious infrastructure projects of the 2008 Olympic Games," said Guo.
Ran Yongsong, deputy chief of the Investment Department under the BDPC, said an investment return compensation system has been set up to encourage foreign funds in the programs.
Other projects
In addition, 37 stadia for the 2008 Olympic Games will also be opened to public bids in the second half of this year.
Both Chinese and international investors will be on an equal footing to win contracts for the 14 billion U.S dollar projects for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games through an open bidding system, official said Tuesday.
The 2008 Olympic Games will bring great opportunities to the city, especially to the city's transport and environmental protection sectors. Beijing government welcomes experienced foreign companies to engage in infrastructure projects and has set up a new office in charge of communicating with foreign enterprises.
On the first day of a four-day inspection by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Evaluation Commission, Beijing vows to make a massive investment of more than US$20 billion in its infrastructure project to facilitate its bid for the 2008 Olympic Games.
Around 180bn yuan for infrastructure construction, 142 key projects, 9m square meters refurbished housing --- all these mammoth plans will be carried out in future seven years since Beijing has won the 2008 Olympics bid. Economic exports say Beijing's hosting of the Games would bring great business opportunities.
