Guangdong Province, an economic powerhouse in south China, is expecting a 9-percent economic growth rate this year, according to Governor Lu Ruihua.
While informing local delegates attending the fifth session of the ninth provincial People's Congress of the province's economic projections for the year 2002, Lu also reported a 9.5 percent growth rate of the gross domestic product (GDP) and a 10.6 percentincrease in exports in 2001.
He told those participating in the session which was opened Monday that Guangdong Province is facing new challenges since China's entry into the World Trade Organization.
