Chinese Premier Meets Ukrainian FM

Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji met Monday with visiting Ukrainian Foreign Minister Anatoly Maximovich Zlenko.

Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji met Monday with visiting Ukrainian Foreign Minister Anatoly Maximovich Zlenko.

Zhu said the bilateral ties between China and Ukraine have steadily developed and exchanges and cooperation in various fields have expanded since the two established diplomatic ties a decade ago.

China values its relations with Ukraine, he said, hoping that both sides increase mutual understanding and cooperation.

He welcomed Ukrainian business leaders to pay more visits to China and exchange views with their Chinese colleagues, so as to boost the trade and economic cooperation between the two.

Zlenko, on his part, said he was pleased with the tremendous economic achievements China has made in the past decade.

While extending his congratulations on China's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO), he said that Ukraine hopes to jointhe WTO.

He said the two countries have yielded enormous achievements inbilateral trade and economic cooperation, however, there still exists great potential in this respect. He expressed the hope to expand bilateral economic, trade and technological cooperation.

Chinese Defense Minister Meets Ukrainian FM
Chinese Defense Minister Chi Haotian met Monday with Anatoly Maximovich Zlenko, Ukrainian foreign minister.

Chi, also vice chairman of the Central Military Commission and a state councilor, said that China and Ukraine, under the leadership of Chinese President Jiang Zemin and his Ukrainian counterpart Leonid Kuchma, have maintained sound relations since the two countries forged diplomatic ties 10 years ago.

He said that the military relations between the two countries have also expanded with more cooperation in all fields.

He noted that developing Sino-Ukrainian relations is in the fundamental interest of the two peoples, and helps safeguard peaceand stability in the region and the world as whole.

Chi expressed his willingness to further the military relations between China and Ukraine in the 21st century.

Zlenko said that he is pleased to visit China at the 10th anniversary of the diplomatic ties of the two countries. The Ukrainian government is satisfied with the development of its relations with China, and hopes to further the cooperation between the two countries and armed forces.
