The first Chinese ambassador to the World Trade Organization (WTO) met WTO Director-General Mike Moore at the WTO headquarters Monday morning in Geneva to present his credentials to the latter.

"It's my great honor to be the first Chinese ambassador to the WTO," said Sun Zhenyu after the meeting.

He said China's accession to the WTO will accelerate its step of reform and opening to the outside world in the long run.

"We will do our best to work closely with other representatives of WTO members to improve and strengthen the multilateral trading system," said Sun.

The new ambassador is expected to hold the inauguration ceremony of China's Permanent Mission to the WTO in Geneva and attend the first meeting of the WTO Trade Negotiations Committee later Monday.
