Guangdong Reports Slight Rise in Foreign Trade in 2001
Guangdong Province, one of China's major export-oriented bases, reported 176.49 billion U.S. dollars worth of foreign trade in 2001, up 3.8 percent from the year 2000.

Local customs sources said the foreign trade volume accounted for 34.6 percent of the national total.
Exports made up 95.42 billion U.S. dollars, with overseas businesses and state-owned companies remaining the key export contributors in the province.
The province imported 81.07 billion U.S. dollars worth of commodities from overseas, a rise of 3.7 percent. Most of the imports were via the processing trade, said the local customs sources.
