8,000 HK People Attracted to Mainland Job Fair

About 8,000 people were attracted to the First China Career Expo held in the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Center this weekend, the organizers said on Sunday. About 750 jobs were provided by 73 mainland companies in the job fair, mainly high and middle-management positions in marketing, finance, advertisement and customer services, etc.

Sheng Nanfang, a high-level official of the South China Market of Human Resources, one of the organizers, said the atmosphere and effect are much better than he had expected.

"Companies coming here are very satisfied because the job seekers in Hong Kong are mostly highly-educated, full of business experiences and capable of speaking foreign languages," Sheng said.

About 750 jobs were provided by 73 mainland companies in the job fair, mainly high and middle-management positions in marketing, finance, advertisement and customer services, etc.

Experts in securities, law and information technologies are also sought with attractive salaries between RMB 200,000 to 1 million yuan per year.

Foreigners also lured to job fair
The job expo attracted not only Hong Kong people. Foreign people from England, France, Korea, Japan, Singapore and Ghana had also appeared there.

David Asiedu from Ghana said he believed there were great chances in China to develop one's business career. He learned the expo from media during his business trip in Hong Kong.

Mainland more attractive for HK job seekers
The job seekers all agreed that the Chinese mainland has become a hot spot for people who want to have a secure and lucrative career since China continues its economic development, particularly after its entry into the World Trade Organization.

Paul Lam, a 51-year-old Hong Konger and once a garment business owner, applied to a middle-level marketing position of Broad Air Conditioning, a famous private company based in Changsha, capital of Hunan Province.

"My company suffered a lot due to poor economic conditions and I have run out of capital now," he said, "I do not mind working for those well-established companies on the mainland."

"I believed there are chances for me as I have many years of experiences in doing business in both the mainland and international market," Lam added.



One-third of HK Youths Consider Working or Studying in Mainland

More than one-third of Hong Kong's young people are willing to work or study in China's mainland, according to a survey released by a local political party Thursday.

The survey, entitled "A survey on youth employment in Hong Kong" and conducted by the Hong Kong Progressive Alliance, has successfully surveyed more than 1,240 people belonging to the target age group of 16 to 25.

When asked if they would consider going to the mainland to study or work, 400 respondents, or 32 percent of the total, said they would, the survey report said. Full Story
