China's first ambassador to World Trade Organization Sun Zhenyu arrived in Geneva late Saturday.

Sun said at the airport that "As the first ambassador to WTO, I think this job is very challenging to me."

Sun Zhenyu, Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, was appointed as China's first ambassador to WTO earlier this month.

The new ambassador said, "I am looking forward to working closely with the WTO Secretariat and the permanent representatives and ambassadors from various countries here."

"I believe that through our joint efforts, we can make WTO an organization which can bring benefits to most of the member countries and take into consideration the interests of all countries, including developed and developing countries, particularly the least developed ones.

After 15-year negotiations, China became the 143rd member of the world trade body in January 1, 2002.

Ambassador Sun is scheduled to meet WTO Director-General Mike Moore and present his credentials next Monday. He is also planning to hold an inauguration ceremony for China's Permanent Mission to WTO on the same day.
