The Board of Investment of Thailand (BOI) plans to develop the country as the top investment attraction in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) by the year 2004, Minister to the Prime Minister's Office ChaturonChaisang said in Bangkok Saturday.
Chaturon said that the plan was part of BOI's aggressive investment attraction strategies for the year 2002-2004, aimed to boost local investment projects supported by BOI's privileges, both in the quantitative and qualitative scopes, according to a report of the Thai News Agency(TNA).
The strategies were also in line with the government's nationaldevelopment policy, and were in line with a recent survey on foreign investment trend, conducted by the Japanese External TradeOrganization (JETRO), which indicated that Thailand has sound conditions and environment for foreign investment, he stated.
The survey also found that Japanese investors eyed Thailand's as its third investment attraction over the next three years afterChina and the United States.
Chaturon said that under the strategies, BOI planned to developThailand as the first choice for investment projects in ASEAN by the year 2004, focusing on three targeted investment groups.
The three targeted investment groups are firstly investment projects for future development, secondly, investment projects which need to be strengthened, and investment projects which need to be expanded, he disclosed.
BOI would implement investment promotion measures and policies for the three targeted group separately so that they would best suit natures and potential of each group, said Chaturon, who oversees BOI.
