Top Legislator Li Peng Meets Cypriot Defense Minister

China will observe all the United Nations resolutions on the Cyprus issue, Chinese top legislator Li Peng said in Beijing on Wednesday.

China will observe all the United Nations resolutions on the Cyprus issue, Chinese top legislator Li Peng said in Beijing on Wednesday.

Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, told the visiting Cypriot Defense Minister Socrates Hasikos that China is ready to develop friendly relations with all nations including Cyprus.

He said China advocates multi-polarization, follows an independent foreign policy of peace, and seeks justice and equality in the international community.

He said Sino-Cypriot relations have developed smoothly for many years. The Chinese government has attached importance to its relations with Cyprus and is willing to expand cooperation with the country.

He hoped that relations between the two states and militaries will develop further.

Hasikos expressed gratitude for China's support of Cyprus, and praised China for its important role in the international arena.

He hopes to expand the contact and cooperation between the two states and their armed forces.
