Falun Gong Cult Owes Blood Debt That Can Never be Repaid: Commentary
Several obsessed followers of the cult captured worldwide attention after they set themselves on fire on January 23 last year at Tian'anmen Square in central Beijing, manipulated by cult leader Li Hongzhi and his cult organization.
The People's Daily carries a commentary Wednesday calling on the whole nation to keep alert to the danger of the Falun Gong cult.
Several obsessed followers of the cult captured worldwide attention after they set themselves on fire on January 23 last year at Tian'anmen Square in central Beijing, manipulated by cult leader Li Hongzhi and his cult organization.
The commentary, which describes the incident as being "extremely tragic," says that the fire changed the destiny of the few people involved in just a few seconds: the 12-year-old badly burnt girl Liu Siying and her mother died, while the others survived their suicide attempts with incurable physical deformities and psychological scars.
Li Hongzhi and his cult owe them blood debt that can never be repaid, the commentary points out.
What happened in Tian'anmen Square, and a series of bloody incidents in which some demented Falun Gong followers killed other followers or their own family members, have alerted people time and again to the evil nature of the cult.
It is to protect the lives and property of citizens and safeguard their human rights that the Chinese government bans the cult and cracks down on criminal and law-breaking activities by the cult according to law.
The commentary calls on the people to be fully aware that the Falun Gong cult exerts mental control not only on the elderly, women and patients, but also on children and well-educated people.
The commentary points out that Li Hongzhi and his cult still exist, and they are still conspiring to harm both the people and the country. Failure to recognize the danger of the cult will leave future trouble in store for the country and its people, the commentary warns.
"Only by rooting out the evil cult can the harmony and tranquility of society be assured," it says.
