China has started a campaign to combat fake products in the run-up to the Spring Festival, the Chinese New Year, which falls on February 12 this year.
Sources with the State General Administration of Quality Supervision and Quarantine said that the move mainly aims to ensure food safety during the holiday.
A notice was issued by the administration to local quality supervision and quarantine departments, asking them to take action against any illegal production and selling of unsafe food.
The notice called for closer supervision over manufacturing to prevent any unsafe food from entering the market. Legal action will be taken against illegal production.
Meanwhile, food producers are required to clearly mark their products.
Any case involving food poisoning will be dealt with according to law.
