Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak stressed on Sunday that establishing an independent Palestinian state is conducive to the world peace and stability.
"Giant nations, even the majority of the Israelis know quite well that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state is considered to be one of conditions for achieving peace and security in the world," Mubarak said in a televised speech to mark the golden jubilee of the Police Day.
"They also know that the Palestinians and Israelis should co- exist peacefully," he said, adding that a comprehensive peace in the region is based upon the return of the Golan Heights from Israel to Syria and Israel's withdrawal from all the occupied territories in Lebanon.
He also lashed out at Israel's defiance of international resolutions, saying that "Israel is not abiding by legitimate international resolutions, and it is trying to refuse serious negotiations and forget all signed accords."
He called on the international community, especially the United Nations, the United States, the European Union and Russia, to help end the ongoing Palestinian-Israeli violence and bring the two sides back to the negotiating table.
