Former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger discussed with Indian leaders, including Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, tensions between India and Pakistan here on Thursday, .
Kissinger, who is on a private visit to India, had a 30-minute meeting with Vajpayee during which they exchanged views on the global campaign against terrorism and the escalated tensions of relations between India and Pakistan in particular, said an official of the External Affairs Ministry.
Earlier on Thursday, Kissinger met Indian Home Affairs minister L.K. Advani and External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh, during which he extended "strong support" to New Delhi for its " constructive role" in fight against terrorism.
The former U.S. secretary of state urged India and Pakistan to join hands in search of solution of the Kashmir problem.
Advani told Kissinger during their hour-long meeting that there could be no de-escalation of relation with Pakistan until Islamabad translated its promises to action to end cross-border terrorism against India.
Emerging from his meeting with Advani, Kissinger told the media that Washington was in favor of a peaceful resolution on the Kashmir issue and beginning of a new relationship between India and Pakistan.
Though Kissinger maintained that there was no specific agenda for his talks here, Indian officials said he discussed the Indo- Pakistan dispute over Kashmir extensively with Indian leaders.
