Without Wang Zhizhi, defening champions Bayi Rockets were no match to Shanghai Sharks, losing 129-102 on Wednesday to the runners-up on the road in the 12th round of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) in Shanghai, China Wednesday evening.

This is the fifth loss of the military team this season when Wang is playing for the Dallas Mavericks in America's National Basketball Association (NBA)

The defeat to Shanghai severly slamp Bayi's chance to retain the title for the seventh consecutive season.

Shanghai, who kept the winning streak since the start of the season, put its stamp of the domination of the league behind pivot Yao Ming's 40 points and 26 rebounds.

Rockets' power forward Liu Yudong got the credit with 46 points and 11 rebounds in just 35 minutes, but his solo effort was not enough to save the team.

Menk Bateer had 12 points and 12 rebounds to lead Beijing Ducks for the third straight win in a 82-80 oust of Guangdong Hongyuan on the road. Beijing vaulted to the third place on the 13-team standings.

In other matches, Shandong Flaming Bulls snapped down Shanxi Gaitianli 117-93 at home, Beijing Olympian thrashed Shenzhen Yikang 118-85 on the road, Sina Lions kept winning streak to the second game by defeating Zhejiang Cyclones, 112-88, while Jilin Northeast Tigers vs Liaoning Hunters.
