Visiting Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji said Tuesday in New Delhi that there is a great potential for the development of relations between China and India and a bright future for the wide-range cooperation between the two countries.
In his meeting with Indian External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh, Zhu said that China and India are two largest developing countries in the world and both countries face the task of developing economy and raising the people's living standard. All problems existing between the two countries could be solved.
Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1950, great changes have taken place in China and India, as well as in the world, he said. "Peace and cooperation have become the main trend in the world today," he added.
In such a situation, the Chinese Premier said, the two countries should enhance exchanges between their governments, parliaments and peoples, nurture friendship and promote cooperation.
Singh said that developing friendly relations between India and China has always been his desire since this is in accordance with the interest of the two countries as well as beneficial for the entire world.
The Indian minister said that India and China could not and should not constitute threats to each other and the existing problems between the two countries were left over from history. Both sides should properly solve these problems, Singh said, adding it is important to enhance exchanges between the two countries at all levels.
