China's Industrial Production Grows 9.9 Percent in 2001

China's industrial enterprises generated a total value added of 2.695 trillion yuan (324.7 billion U.S. dollars) in 2001, a year-on-year growth of 9.9 percent, the National Bureau of Statistics said Tuesday.

In December 2001, the value added of industrial enterprises throughout the country increased by 8.7 percent to 263.2 billion yuan (31.8 billion U.S. dollars), while state-owned, collective and share-holding industrial enterprises saw a growth of five, 8.9 and 8.7 percent, respectively.

Though overseas-funded companies had a rise of 9.2 percent in December, the growth rate was 0.9 percentage points lower than the previous month, the bureau said.

A monthly report of the bureau shows that the light industry sector witnessed a rise of seven percent and the heavy industry sector gained an increase of 10 percent in December.

All the industrial enterprises provided 156.9 billion yuan (18.97 billion U.S. dollars) worth of products for export in December, an increase of 8.6 percent on a yearly basis.

Manufacturers of electronics and telecommunications facilities, transport facilities, and metallurgical products were the major contributors to the industrial growth in December, the bureau said.
