State Councilor Luo Gan Monday encouraged public securities departments between China and Japan to cooperate more in combating crimes, especially cross-border crimes and terrorism.
At a meeting with a Japanese police delegation headed by Jin Murai, chairman of the National Public Safety Commission of Japan, Luo said China values the relations with Japan and maintaining friendly relations between the two is in the best interest of both people.
The year 2002 marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Japan, he said, hoping that this would provide an opportunity to enhance and promote bilateral ties while adhering to the principle of "taking history as a mirror and looking forward to the future."
The cooperation between Chinese and Japanese police is an integral part of Sino-Japanese friendly cooperation, Luo said, expressing hope that public security departments in both countries would tighten cooperation to crack down on various criminal activities, especially transnational crimes and terrorism.
Jin Murai, who is here at the invitation of China's Ministry of Public Security, agreed with Luo and said it is necessary to further the already smooth cooperation between public security departments of the two countries.
