China Exports Cattle to Malaysia

A special ship carrying more than 1,000 head of cattle raised in Maping Township in the ZhangpuCounty, east China's Fujian Province, has left the Zhangzhou port on for Malaysia.

A special ship carrying more than 1,000 head of cattle raised in Maping Township in the ZhangpuCounty, east China's Fujian Province, has left the Zhangzhou port on for Malaysia.

These are the first Chinese cattle to be exported to another country, said Wang Zhimin, director of the Fujian Provincial Bureau for Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine.

Maping Township has a large area of grassland and local geological conditions are up to the requirements(? for animal husbandry) of the World Health Organization. Cattle raised in Maping are one of the four top cattle species recognised by the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture.

Maping now has more than 5,000 head of cattle.

In March last year a Malaysian businessman spent more than 10 million yuan (1.2 million U.S. dollars) establishing an animal husbandry company in Maping Township making the town the first foreign-funded base for the export of cattle in Fujian Province.

More than 30 State Administration for Entry-Exit Inspection andQuarantine experts from Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Zhuhai took blood samples for testing from more than 1,000 cattle at Maping Township at the end of December last year.
