Putin Issues Anti-terrorism Decree

Russian President Vladimir Putinhas issued a decree ordering Russian special services and other security agencies to tighten measures against international terrorism, the presidential press service said Friday.

Russian President Vladimir Putinhas issued a decree ordering Russian special services and other security agencies to tighten measures against international terrorism, the presidential press service said Friday.

\The presidential decree, circulated by the service on Friday, applies criminal punishment to terrorist acts as well as for financing terrorism and terrorist organizations.

Relevant government departments are urged to ensure the blocking of "the money and other financial assets and economic resources" belonging to or controlled by terrorist-related people or organizations.

The decree is a Russian response to United Nations Security Council Resolution 1373, which was adopted on September 28, 2001. The resolution denounced international terrorism as a threat to world peace and security and called for all means complying with the U.N. Charter to ward off the threat.
