Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), said here Friday that Macao will play a more active role in west China development.
He was here attending a celebration to mark the opening of a local Macao-funded bridge.
He said that considering Macao's limited geographical area andits difficulty in establishing economic ties with all west China provinces, Macao will contribute to west China development mainly by cooperating with Chongqing Municipality.
Chongqing, with a 30-million population, is considered by Macaobusinessmen to have huge market potential.
Sources said that the delegation headed by the chief executive is the largest of all similar endeavors made previously by the Macao SAR government.
At present, there are 33 Macao-funded enterprises in Chongqing, with an investment of about 200 million US dollars.
