Brazilian soccer officials will deploy "spies" for the friendly match between Costa Rica and Cameroon set for January 11 in San Jose, it was reported Wednesday in San Jose.
The Costa Rican national soccer team will be one of Brazil's rivals in the first phase of the 2002 World Cup finals, together with China and Turkey in Group C.
Costa Rica's sports press said on Wednesday the coordinator of the Brazilian national team, Antonio Lopes will watch the Costa Rica-Cameroon game at the scene to study the Central American side.
Meanwhile, Brazil coach Luiz Felipe Scolari and his assistant Flavio Mortuosa will also see some of the Costa Rica friendlies before the high-profile tournament in South Korea and Japan, according to local sports newscasters.
Costa Rican analysts said the Brazilians also study China and Turkey, but it is not known who will be the Brazilian spies in these cases.
It is widely seen here that Brazil will pass on to the next round without problems, despite the poor performance of the South American soccer giants on the way to the this year's finals.
