Yugoslavian President to Promote Ties Through China Visit
Yugoslavian President Vojislav Kostunica's upcoming China visit which starts Wednesday is to promote friendly and cooperative ties between the two countries, Foreign Ministry spokesman Sun Yuxi said Tuesday.

During his visit, Kostunica will hold talks with Chinese President Jiang Zemin, and meet separately with Chairman Li Peng of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and Premier Zhu Rongji, Sun told a regular news conference.
The leaders will exchange views on bilateral relations, the regional situation and international issues of common concern, Sunsaid, adding that besides Beijing, the Yugoslavian president will also visit Shanghai.
Sun said the relations between China and Yugoslavia are based on mutual respect of sovereignty and territorial integrity, equality and mutual benefit, and noninterference in each other's internal affairs.
The bilateral ties are developing smoothly in all areas, and China feels very satisfied with this and is willing to work with Yugoslavia to further advance the relations in the new century, Sun added.
Yugoslav President Leaves for China for State Visit
Yugoslav President Vojislav Kostunica left Belgrade Tuesday for Beijing for a three-day state visit to China at the invitation of Chinese President Jiang Zemin.
This is Kostunica's first visit to China since he became Yugoslav president.
He is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Miroljub Labus and Foreign Minister Goran Svilanovic. A team of 40 Yugoslav entrepreneurs have also joined in the delegation.
During the visit, Kostunica is scheduled to hold talks with Chinese leaders on ways to strengthen bilateral ties and economic cooperation, and on international issues of common concern. Besides Beijing, the Yugoslav president will also visit Shanghai.
