The Albanian government decided on Monday to impose the state of civil emergency in the country's four northern regions due to bad weather.
The regions are Shkoder, Diber, Kukes and Lezhe, which were hit by heavy rain and snow in the last few days. Temperatures there dropped to 20 degrees centigrade below zero.
The government also decided to set up a ministerial Committee of Civil Emergency, headed by deputy Prime Minister Skender Gjinushi, to cope with the situation.
The bad weather, sweeping across all countries in the Balkan Peninsula, has caused serious problems to the residents in northern Albania. Many mountain villages are cut off and having difficulties in food supply and goods circulation.
